Krems an der Donau

, Copyright Barbara

Krems is located directly on the banks of the Danube, the second longest river in Europe. It is roughly 80 km from Vienna and
30 km from the state capital, St. Pölten. Nestled amongst vineyards, Krems is one of the oldest cities in the country, and boasts a history that goes back more than a thousand years. The city is the gateway to the Wachau, one of the most beautiful river landscapes in Europe. The old part of town is full of historical buildings, which give it a unique flair. In 2000 Krems and the Wachau region were declared a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site.

Studio apartments

In addition to the studio apartments, the building also houses parts of the stretch of art galleries and other cultural institutions referred to collectively as the Kunstmeile Krems: the Artothek Niederösterreich, the Unabhängige Literaturhaus Niederösterreich, the Susanne Wenger Archiv, and the ORTE Architekturnetzwerk NÖ office. Located nearby are also the Kunsthalle Krems, the Karikaturmuseum, Klangraum Krems/Minoritenkirche, Forum Frohner, Ernst Krenek Forum, the Austrian Film Gallery, Danube University Krems, Galerie Göttlicher, and Galerie Stadtpark. In addition to the Weinstadtmuseum, which is in one of Austria’s most beautiful monasteries and churches, Krems also boasts numerous other platforms for contemporary music, hosting, for example, the donaufestival as well as the festivals Imago Dei, HerbstZeitlos and Glatt&Verkehrt.
